He struggled with addiction in the 1980s.
And now actor Robin Williams is back in rehab, admitting that he wants to ‘maintain and control’ his sobriety.
The Mrs Doubtfire star was clean for 20 years after giving up alcohol and drugs altogether, but checked himself into a facility in 2006, admitting that he was an alcoholic.
Now, eight years later, he is back at the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota… but his rep claims that it’s just to help him with his ‘focus.’
Robin’s rep told TMZ: “After working back-to-back projects, Robin is simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud.”
According to the US site, the 62-year-old is expected to stay at the facility for a few weeks while he’s in between filming.
Robin openly admitted to battling an addiction to cocaine back during the early 1980s, claiming to have given it up when he became a dad to son Zachary in 1983.
He also admitted that the death of his pal, John Belushi, who died of a drug overdose in 1982, was a major ‘wake up call.’
But he only spoke out about his addiction to alcohol when he checked into rehab in 2006, with his publicist giving a statement to the press.
It read: “After 20 years of sobriety, Robin Williams found himself drinking again and has decided to take proactive measures to deal with this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family.”
The funnyman has certainly been working hard recently, starring in a staggering 10 films since the beginning of 2013, including The Angriest Man In Brooklyn.
We hope he gets better soon!
