Russell Brand has defended Bruce Jenner over recent ‘transphobic bullying’ on the most recent episode of ‘The Trews’.
The Kardashian has been the subject of much speculation over his gender lately, with InTouch magazine taking things to an unneccessarily mean level by photoshopping a load of make-up onto his face courtesy of a photo of Stephanie Beacham.
Yes, that really did happen.
Many people, including Bruce’s ex-wife Kris Jenner, spoke up to vocalise their disgust, and now Russell Brand has joined them, criticising websites such as TMZ for making a joke out of Bruce’s potential transgender.
During coverage of the story, members of the TMZ office laughed as they discussed how Bruce “wasn’t doing a very good job of being a man.”
As Russell, 39, explained in his internet episode, “this is bullying. Stop. Bruce Jenner is a human being.”
He continued: “For some sections of the media, transphobia seems to be the most recent and encouraged form of prejudice, now that racism and homophobia are not tolerated.
“We can’t be homophobic anymore… Can’t be racist anymore… But still can be transphobic though, can we?
“Don’t this seem like when you see Blade Runner, or some dystopian thing – when you see a bit of telly in a film from the future, and everything’s a bit ‘hello, we’re evil now!’
“It’s such a celebration of the worst aspects of human values. What this does is it sanctions people being judgemental and cruel towards transgender folk.
“This climate of bullying and judgement and cruelty is a violence of its own nature.”
Russell’s views were mainly based on American tabloids’ coverage of the story, but it’s certainly food for thought, and we’re all for being whatever/whoever you want to be.
Because, let’s be honest, deciding someone’s gender for them by slapping a load of make-up on their face via Photoshop is not okay.
Time to leave Bruce Jenner ALONE and let him make his own life choices without us all judging him, eh?
Russell’s views come after reports claimed Kris was ‘outraged’ by InTouch’s idea of creativity.
According to TMZ, Kris has said: “It’s just mean to do whether or not it’s true.”
A source added: “She has contempt for the magazine jumping to conclusions and then altering the image to fit its story.”
Their actions have also caused further consequences, as Kris has reportedly cut all ties with Bauer publications, with a source telling New York Daily News: “They won’t get any ‘real’ quotes from the family, and will be banned from Kardashian-Jenner red carpets, events, premieres and fashion events.”
This cover was never okay in any way, shape or form, and it’s good to see other people taking a stand against it.
Good job, Russell.
