When we heard former X Factor winner Sam Bailey had been dropped by Simon Cowell‘s record label Syco, we have to admit we felt really quite sorry for the poor gal and we wanted to give her a big hug.
For real. However, as surprised as we were by the news, Sam has revealed that she saw the whole thing coming, and now she’s got new career aspirations.
Involving acting, actually, which is EXCITING.
Talking to Gaby Roslin on Lorraine in her first interview since her record label split, Sam revealed that she ‘knew’ getting dropped was coming, and that she’s trying to find the silver lining in it all.
POSITIVE THOUGHTS, SAM. Positive thoughts.
She admitted: “I’m not silly, I’ve been around the block a bit, I kind of knew it was coming.
“I want to be recognised as an artist that’s going to write some songs, which is kind of what I’m doing. As soon as the tour has finished I’m in the studio writing some songs so it’s onwards and upwards.
“You know I like to see the positive in everything and I don’t see this as a negative I really don’t.”
*Imaginary thumbs up emoji”.
Luckily, the 37-year-old has got some sort of idea of what she’d like to try her hand at next, and it turns out she’s quite the comedian.
She explained: “I’d like to do some acting, no-one off The X Factor has ever done any sort of acting.”
Well, if you ignore Joe McElderry’s minor musical roles (remember him? He was defo our favourite the year he won. Sorry not sorry).
She added: “I’m quite a comical person. On this tour everyone has said, loads of people on twitter have said, ‘my goodness you are so funny’. I don’t mean to be, that’s just naturally me, I generally take the mickey out myself quite a lot.
“I’ve been acting for years, I went to performing arts schools so to go into acting or do something on TV would be just the icing on the cake. I just want to keep fingers in each pie so that I can provide for my family.”
A spokesman from the record company confirmed that Sam and Syco had parted ways last weekend, saying: “Sam Bailey is no longer with Syco.”
A source also told The Sun: “Music is a tough business. Simon realises most X Factor winners have a short shelf life.”
Still, at least she’s still got the support of daughter Miley’s godmother, Sharon Osbourne: “Sharon has had my back from day one and she sort of knows I am a strong person and I’m a mum. She knows I’m a grafter so she’s kind of helping me in that direction but I want her as a friend.
“I don’t want her to be somebody there that’s going to be doing all this stuff for me, I don’t want her to be that person, that’s not why I asked her to be Miley’s godmother or anything.
“I asked her to be Miley’s godmother because we have a special bond so I don’t like to ask her for any favours or ask her ‘can you do this for me.’”
We’re wishing Sam the best of luck with the acting (and the music, OBVIOUSLY), and we genuinely really hope it all works out for her.
