Sophie Ellis Bextor has opened up about her first pregnancy which was unplanned saying that it was her Mum who told her to keep the baby.

Sophie was left questioning what to do when she discovered she was pregnant within weeks of meeting her now-husband, Richard Jones.

Speaking to Marie Claire about the time, Sophie admits it was her mother, Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, who promised her everything would turn out alright in the end:

“I don't think you could ever be confident that it would work out OK. But mum said to me, “It might not be the right time, it might not be the right man, but it's the right baby,”’ she says.

However, Sophie was right to have taken her Mum’s advice as she and Richard now have three boys, Sonny who will turn 10 next April, Kit, four and Ray who was born last April.

Sophie is currently taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing and admits she went in wanting to ‘shake things up’.

“It was more about the desire to shake things up a bit. I really had no idea what I'd be like [at dancing] so there's a bit of a risk element”, she says, adding:

“It was petrifying – you get so nervous before the dance – but also a privilege. I want to push myself. It's too early to coast along,” she adds.

Well, she certainly isn’t coasting and we don’t know about you but we can’t wait to see what she brings to the dance floor this week.
