Strictly 2014: Claudia Winkleman Given Indefinite Time Off To Care For Daughter Following Halloween Fire

It’s still just so sad.

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have revealed that  Claudia Winkleman has been given an indefinite amount of time off in order to care for her badly injured daughter, Matilda.

The TV presenter already missed last week’s live show and is set to miss this Saturday’s as well, whilst she keeps a vigil by the eight-year-old’s hospital bed following a tragic Halloween accident.

A source from the BBC revealed: “She can have all the time she wants. All the time in the world. Everyone is thinking of her.”

Zoe Ball, who is the host of Strictly’s sister show, It Takes Two, has been stepping in to cover for Claudia during this difficult time.

Yesterday, Claudia and her husband Kris Thykier spoke out about the horrifying moment that Matilda’s Halloween costume became engulfed in flames in a statement.

The distraught couple said: “Our daughter was involved in an accident on Friday night while celebrating Halloween.

“She is having the best care possible and we are hopeful of a full recovery. We would like to thank everyone that has been so supportive and particularly the NHS doctors, nurses and staff who have been absolutely incredible.

“We would like to remind anyone taking part in fireworks parties or Guy Fawkes celebrations to be vigilant about the dangers of candles, open fires and fireworks and to be please have the appropriate safety measures in place and to hand.”

It has not been confirmed how the fire started, but it is widely believed that Matilda’s Halloween costume caught alight when it came into contact with a pumpkin candle.

Claudia, who is also mother to 11-year-old Jake and 3-year-old Arthur, was with her daughter when the incident happened near their West London home, and it has been revealed that Matilda was rushed to hospital in an ambulance as high priority.

Strictly viewers were surprised to see It Takes Two host Zoe Ball standing in for Claudia on Saturday night’s show, where she and co-host Tess Daly revealed that Claudia couldn’t be there as one of her children were unwell.

It was then confirmed yesterday that Zoe will be stepping in again, with a BBC statement reading: “Zoe Ball will co-host Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

“All our thoughts and very best wishes are with Claudia and her family at this time.”

We are all wishing little Matilda a speedy recovery.
