Yesterday, reports claimed that Claudia Winkleman would be stepping back into her Strictly Come Dancing hosting shoes and hitching a ride on a donkey in Blackpool.
However, it’s now been confirmed that the host will not be travelling, as she stays home to continue looking after daughter Matilda following her tragic burns accident on Halloween.
Still so sad
The incident happened almost two weeks ago and understandably, Claudia, 42, has decided that she doesn’t want to leave her daughter until she’s absolutely, 100% recovered.
We’re sending all our love and best wishes to Claudia and her family at this tough time.
Following yesterday’s rumours of a grand return, BBC sources have confirmed that Clauds actually feels that it’s far too early to return to the show, and may not even be back at all this series as she puts being a mum first and keeps a vigil over Matilda’s bedside.
Zoe Ball will step in again this weekend as the dancers take to the famous Tower Ballroom, and could potentially continue her hosting gig for the whole series.
A source told The Sun: “Getting the gig on Strictly was a dream for Claudia, so it’s cruel that she has had to pull out when things were all going so well.
“But she is not going to leave Matilda’s side until she is sure she is ready.
“Matilda is taking great strides in her recovery, but a long way off being completely better and Claudia just doesn’t think it would be appropriate to be on stage being upbeat while her daughter is unwell.
“At this stage she is refusing to put a time on when she’ll be back. She is going to give it as long as it takes and the BBC is being incredibly understanding.”
We totally understand Clauds.
A source for the BBC previously revealed that Claudia could have “all the time in the world” off during this difficult time to help Matilda’s recovery, and that we might not see her again this series.
The accident happened during Claudia’s daughter’s trick or treating fun, when her outfit became engulfed in flames after allegedly coming into contact with a candle.
A distraught Claudia and her husband Kris Thykier said: “Our daughter was involved in an accident on Friday night while celebrating Halloween.
“She is having the best care possible and we are hopeful of a full recovery. We would like to thank everyone that has been so supportive and particularly the NHS doctors, nurses and staff who have been absolutely incredible.
“We would like to remind anyone taking part in fireworks parties or Guy Fawkes celebrations to be vigilant about the dangers of candles, open fires and fireworks and to be please have the appropriate safety measures in place and to hand.”
Claudia, who is also mother to 11-year-old Jake and 3-year-old Arthur, was with her daughter when the incident happened near their West London home, and it has been revealed that Matilda was rushed to hospital in an ambulance as high priority.
We’re totally behind Claudia’s decision to stay by Matilda’s side during this difficult time, and we’re sending them all our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
