We now know which professionals the celebs will be dancing with this series.
And after the dreaded group dance on Sunday night’s launch show, we’ve got a taste of who’s going to do well on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2014. Our tip for the top? Frankie Bridge. Why so?
She’s got the moves: The Saturdays’ singer impressed in the group dance on Sunday, with natural rhythm and more relaxed moves than a lot of the other contestants. Sure, her usual style is a lot looser than the strict ballroom rules, but she’s got the benefit of dancing as part of her day job.
She’s got the likeability: We reckon Frankie’s one of the most likeable out of this year’s 15 contenders. As ‘Strictly’ 2013 champion Abbey Clancy proved, likeability + dance ability = winner.
Last year, Natalie Gumede was the best dancer (according to the judges) and Susanna Reid was the most likeable, but it was Abbey’s combo of both that won it. We predict Frankie to follow in her footsteps.
She can go on “The Journey”: ‘Strictly’ fans love to watch a celeb flourish over the course of the series, starting out a bit shaky but gaining in skills and confidence. Frankie certainly isn’t the finished article at this point and has the potential to get better each week.
She isn’t the bookies’ early favourite: As with “the journey”, fans of the show also like to back an underdog, so the fact that Frankie isn’t the bookies’ favourite at the outset should work in her favour. She’s still up there in third position, but Pixie Lott and Thom Evans are ahead of her in the betting.
Pixie has a new pro that the viewers don’t know yet, which also plays into Frankie’s hands. As for Thom? Well, those pecs will be quite a challenge to beat. He’s our second favourite to win (and not just ‘cos of his gorgeousness).
She’s got a popular pro: Frankie has been teamed with Kevin Clifton, the Grimsby lad who did wonders for Susanna and won legions of fans in his own right. This winning combo of popular professional and likeable celeb suggests the show’s producers are tipping Frankie for big things too.
So how will the others fare? When Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced each ‘Strictly’ pairing at the premiere, the reaction of the celebs and pros told us a lot.
Some looked genuinely elated, some looked downright put out, and surely those who already have chemistry (like Frankie and Kevin) will have the advantage.
We’ll get a better idea of how the celebs are shaping up after they return to the ballroom on Friday 26 September for the first live show. All together now… “start dancing”.
