Happy Birthday Natalie Portman!
As the Garden State and Black Swan actress turns 33 years-old, we’ve picked 11 GREAT (but by no means definitive) reasons to love her.
1. All Powerful Amidala
So she started preeeetty young – with creditable roles in Léon and ..er…Mars Attacks – but we all know that the moment we came to truly love her was when she played the beautifully feisty Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
By MazSightMove over Princess Laya.
2. Curly Cutie
She’s the epitome of ‘Girl Next Door’.
Before she became the elegant swan and face of Dior that we know her to be now, she was just a curly haired cutie from round the block.
3. THAT FACE THOUGH
By jove, does this woman have just the finest face in all of the known earth?!
It doesn’t matter which way she turns or how many pies she crams in over lunch – this is a face that will never suffer a triple chin, nor even the whiff of a pimple.
4. fashion Fails
She’s normal! Or, at least, we can tell ourselves that.
Miss Portman doesn’t always get it right, bless her, and that’s part of her charm.
5. Pink Lady
Guuuurl loves her a bit of pink. And why not?
6. Britney BFF!
Seeing as Ms Spears doesn’t seem to be able to go anywhere these days without some sort of armed cavalry, the fact that Natalie Portman got close enough for a BFF pic is M.A.J.O.R.
7. Bald and BEAUTIFUL
Literally, the girl looks even better WITHOUT hair.
By MazSightHow is that even possible?!
8. She even makes paper aeroplanes look good
Take Bjork’s swan dress, chuck in some origami and you have one hot mess of a dress.
BUT, pop it on Natalie Portman and fug becomes fab in the blink of an eye.
9. Don’t put Portman in the corner
She might look shy and retiring, but girl’s got some serious spunk.
Despite being named as the face of Miss Dior Cherie perfume, Israeli-born Natalie spoke out publically against John Galliano, head designer at Dior at the time, following claims of his anti-semitism.
In her statement about it she said:
“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”
10. On the Down Low
Natalie shows us you don’t need massive, gravity-defying fun bags to be a fan of the low-plunge.
By MazSight11. Dior Darling
From curly haired cutie to this: the face of Miss Dior Cherie, married to Hunky McBallet-Pants and one stylish specimin of a grown up woman.
Summer is fast approaching and even if we fail to see the sun in the UK, holiday spots are hotting up and the season’s array of bikinis are on sale.
But the new trend for unusual shapes and geometric straps has an unfortunate side effect – really dodgy tanlines. And they led us to quite an unexpected discovering…
The lovely ladies over at Jezebel decided that these swimsuits should come with a tan warning. And set about to reveal exactly what happens when you take beach fashion too far.
It’s a shame because on the surface the bikinis looks stylish and probably distract from any wobbly bits you don’t want people to focus on. But beware the aftermath – because these tanlines will cut out all manner of clothes from your summer.
Celebs such as Abbey Clancy should take note – her recent frolics in Dubai will give her bizarre square patches over the chest if she’s not careful.
Unexpectedly, after some accidental and most definitely NSFW internet searches for more glorious examples of tanlines gone wrong, we discovered something new and unexpected. One person’s irritating tanline is another person’s sexy fetish.
There are tanline appreciation forums and more deidedly X-rated tanline blogs than we could every have imagined. You have been warned.
And we’re assuming the more exotic the better. Enter bonkers bikinis like these:
The summer is here. And it looks a bit frightening.
But if you want to get really creative, there are other ways to make use of the sun’s tranformative powers (slowly, using plenty of suncream and avoiding the sun between 11am and 3pm of course).
We rather like the idea of a Hello Kitty tan:
Or perhaps careful suncream application could give you a gun holstered in your bikini bottoms.
Or perhaps the coolest swimsuit tan ever? A shark-bite!
Letizia Ortiz, you might have heard of her.
She’s about to be the Queen of Spain.
Well, we think so, but apparently that’s not a viewpoint shared by much of the media.
Since the abdication of King Juan Carlos on June 2, after 39 years reigning over Spain, newspapers and magazines have gone into a frenzy, discussing the pros and cons of Letizia as future Queen.
Largely, they have focussed on her fashion, comparing her style, outfit by outfit, to our own Kate Middleton, as if it’s a battle that needs a victor.
But even more unkindly, many have landed on the “skeletons in her closet” as means of undermining her character.
We’ve seen headlines that cite the “scandal” of her previous divorce, rumours about her nosejob and lines about the “alleged abortion that [mars] her reputation.”
It seems that there’s something about being Royal that opens you up to a battering ram of criticism and speculation.
Well, pooh pooh to that!
Instead of chastising Princess Letizia for having a past that, let’s be honest, is actually pretty standard, we’ve decided to focus on all the reasons she’s a little bit great.
1. She’s NOT just a pretty face
This gal’s got a degree AND a masters in broadcast journalism.
Not only that, she was a respected news anchor for Spanish television outlet TVE, who reported on serious topics, like an on-the-ground account of events at Ground Zero, 9/11.
In fact, she met Prince Felipe De Bourbon in Galicia in November 2002 while she was covering the environmental damage to the coastline of the northwestern region by the sinking of the Prestige oil tanker.
And to top it all off, she even won an award for Best Spanish Journalist Under 30 in her own country.
Can’t argue with that!
2. She’s not afraid to speak her mind
When her husband Prince Felipe interrupted her, during a press conference in which she was explaining her reasons for gradually leaving her job at TVE, she snapped: “Let me finish!” at him.
You go guuurrrl.
3. She likes the highstreet too
Instead of spouting silly lines like “Shame [Kate] didn’t follow Letizia’s choice of sexy sandals”, how about we celebrate the fact that BOTH Kate Middleton AND Princess Letizia enjoy a good old high street bargain.
Note that Zara floral print dress on the left.
4. Charitable Deeds
She might have given up her TV broadcasting days, but that doesn’t mean she’s stopped making an impact.
She’s known for her involvement in various charities.
Here she is receiving guests of the Fundacion Sindrome De Down (Downs Syndrome Foundation) at the Zarzuela Palace.
5. She gives GOOD ballgown
6. She’s divorced
In 1998 she married Alonso Guerrero Pérez, after dating him for years.
People have judged her negatively for this, but we say being brave enough to leave a marriage that isn’t right shows strength of character.
7. She’s not afraid of a little PDA
With her daughters Sofia and Leonor, that is.
8. She DOES smile
She’s been accused of being cold and sombre at public engagements.
Besides the fact that she’s not a trophy wife, whose job might be to smile on command and look pretty, actually, reports of her downcast demeanour just aren’t really true.

Polo matches attract a particular sort of daytime chic.
With plenty of our fave celebs to be spotted, plus a whole host of interesting frocks, it would be criminal not to write a post about the main events.
Over here in the UK, on June 1, the annual Audi Polo Challenge took place at Coworth Park Club in Ascot – both Prince WIlliam AND Prince Harry were among the stick-and-ballers.
By MazSightMeanwhile, across the pond, at the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic event in Liberty State Park, Jersey City, a whole host of celebrities turned out in their posh frocks to enjoy the sunshine.
Here is a round-up of our faves:
She wowed us in her Lover dress, with it’s cute pointy collar and lace panels, but it was her styling that really floated our boat.
The wooden clutch and gold-orange lip, teamed with her slightly avant-garde swipe earrings made this look brilliantly modern.
Soon to be the plaything of a certain Christian Grey in the upcoming 50 Shades movie, the lovely Ms Johnson cut a sweet figure in her Diane von Furstenberg dress and straw boater hat.
Her Jimmy Choo flats top the look off perfectly.
Helen looked darling in her lace dress and coral court shoes, but it’s her fruit-covered day coat that we’re lusting after! If anyone find out where we can find one, let us know!
By MazSightJulianne’s Rosie Assoulin Fall 2014 jumpsuit is flawless.
It stands out in brilliant contrast to all the floatyy frocks on show this weekend.
The pop of colour in her lips is a great accent too.
By MazSightAnd she’s done it again.
Rocking Alexander McQueen like she was born in it, Lupita is another favourite from the weekend.
By MazSightChoosing a nude with colour with such pale skin was a brave choice, but we think she pulled it off.
Eliza Doolittle and Michelle Rodriguez
Boogying on down with the princes at the after party, Eliza and Michelle went for very different styles.
We LOVE Eliza’s metallic sandals, especially as we can see that pop of turquoise toenail.
We hope the princes appreciated it.
