Simon Cowell is reportedly pushing X Factor producers to find more novelty acts this series after last year’s serious line-up turned viewers off.

Err Shelley Smith anyone? No? Moving swiftly on…

According to The Sun, the 54-year-old music mogul is hoping this year’s show will have a Healthy injection of the fun factor.

A sneaky show insider revealed:  “The X Factor has always thrived on its mix of good and wacky singers. But last year it got far too serious and, in turn, ratings suffered.

“Cowell has said the fun needs to be brought back into the show — and producers have been serving up a constant stream of oddballs that viewers are going to love.”

And apparently Simon’s dreams of the weird and wacky have already come true with acts auditioning so far including twins described as the female Jedward, a Myleene Klass lookalike and a chinese woman who served the judges a three-course banquet.

That’s one way to win them over.

It’s been X Factor audition madness for Simon Cowell this week as he returned to his spot on the famous panel.

But it was back to daddy duties last night as the media mogul spent quality time with his son Eric – helping out with bathtime.

SiCo let his Twitter followers in on the intimate moment, as he washed his cute four-month-old little one, posting the picture along with the caption: “Bath Time!”

The picture sees Little Eric lying in a turquoise bath seat, covered by a flannel as he gazes up at his doting dad. TOO CUTE.

Next question: Is he doing any nappies yet?

Asked before the birth of his son with Lauren Silverman whether he’d be getting involved with nappy changing, Simon said: “I’m not doing that, 100 percent absolutely not going near that.”

Meanwhile, the 54-year-old is back in the X Factor game – joining the rest of the panel, Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Mel B at the auditions in Manchester this week.

And by the sounds of things, the usual banter is back with Simon LIQUIDISING Cheryl’s sushi.

A show insider told the paper that Simon ordered one of his ‘minions’ (we’re assuming a la Despicable Me) to collect the sushi, blend it, and serve to Chezza as a delicious fishy cocktail.

A source close to the totally, utterly, butterly worth it hair model said that she ‘wasn’t impressed’ (not to mention probably rather peckish).
