But Brit boyband The Vamps have revealed plans to audition for The X Factor – as separate artists!
Speaking to us in London to promote their new song, ‘Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)’, 19-year-old lead singer Brad Simpson revealed they were going to try out their luck in front of the judges.
“We’re gonna audition this year!” said the singer and guitarist.
“Separately,” joked drummer Tristan, 20, before Brad chipped in saying they should SO do that.
We THINK they were joking – it’s not as if they need the promotion. But the boys, who formed in 2012 after meeting on YouTube, ARE set to appear on the TV talent show at some point this year.
“We will be making an appearance at some stage but, whether it’s on which show [X Factor or The Xtra Factor], we don’t know,” confirmed 20-year-old lead guitarist and backing vocalist, James McVey.
In fact, the Bournemouth-born star is the only member of the group to have watched the ITV show – the others prefer to watch boxsets on Netflix.
“I have [been watching it] this year. It’s been hard though on tour [to catch up]. I really like Andrea. Oh my God, I love him!” said James.
“I really liked Emily [Middlemas], the little Scottish girl who played guitar, she didn’t get through to the live shows though, but she was good.”
By MazSightBizarrely, Brad doesn’t watch reality shows, and is more into David Attenborough documentaries, like Frozen and Planet Earth. Who’d have thought he was so cultured?
“I don’t really watch prime time TV. I’ve just never been into it, I guess,” he told us.
But perhaps the boys should take advice from James and tune into The X Factor this year as – not only is Chezza back – there’s a new boyband hot on their heels.
By MazSightThe New Boy Band, now named ‘Stereo Kicks’, are an 8-piece boy band that the judges put together at the Bootcamp stage, as with One Direction.
Drummer Tristan described them as ‘Blazing Squad meets 1D!’ and he joked that they should be named ‘Second Direction.’
“Like New Direction. Junior Direction. One Direction takes two [or] Eight Direction!” added Brad.
The Vamps seem to think so.
“There’s always room for everyone if they’re making good music I guess,” said Brad.
It seems the biggest group rivalry (except for One Direction and The Wanted when they were still together) is The Vamps vs 5 Seconds of Summer.
By MazSightBut it’s not between the Vamps themselves (they said they were big fans of 5S0S themselves), but actually between the fans.
There’s an unofficial rule that you can only be a mega-fan of either band, however The Vamps reckon people should be allowed to support whoever they want.
“I don’t see the point [in a fan divide],” said James.
“We’re completely different bands. I love 5SOS and I think you should love everyone!”
By MazSightThe boys – who released a hit single with artist Demi Lovato earlier this year – have a pretty mammoth touring schedule coming up, with tickets for their first headline arena tour going on sale tomorrow, Oct 18.
But you might see them popping up on your TV sooner than you think as they are MEGA keen to appear on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!
By MazSight“I think I would [do I’m A Celeb] to be honest,” said James. “I’d struggle, but I’d do it.”
“I’d do it, yeah [but] Connor would be the best at it,” said Brad (Connor’s been travelling to south east Asia so has a bit of a head-start).
“The food though, that would be my issue. I don’t really eat much meat so it would be hard for me. I don’t think I’d eat camel’s testicles,” admitted James.
“Oh, I have ‘em every morning,” said Brad. “High in protein!”
