After Uma Thurman‘s make-up artist spoke out to explain *that* ‘different’ red carpet look that the actress rocked earlier this week, Uma herself has spoken out and hit back at rumours that she’s had cosmetic surgery.
Labelling those rumours as ‘nasty’, Uma laughed off critics who weren’t a fan of her experimental make-up look.
Speaking to The Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie about her new show ‘The Slap’, 44-year-old Uma took the opportunity to address her look from the show’s premiere, hopefully silencing the critics for good.
When questioned about all the reports surrounding it, Uma replied: “I know I look weird. I don’t know, I guess nobody liked my makeup.
“I’ve been doing this for years and years and years. People say things nice and they say things mean and it’s just like ‘whatever’. You take the good with the bad.”
Yesterday, the gorgeous actress’ make-up artist Troy Surratt defended Uma, insisting her premiere look was all down to experimental make-up.
Speaking to People, Troy described how he was “surprised” by all the cosmetic surgery speculation, explaining that it was just a mascara-less “effortless parisienna chic” look that he created for her.
He said: “Frankly, I’m quite surprised by the conversation.
“By now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and particularly celebrity, as a medium for creative self expression. I think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different beauty looks — it’s only makeup, at the end of the day it all washes off.”
He makes a ruddy good point, actually. If people want to try out a new look, who is anyone to judge, eh?
He also shared the secrets behind the look, explaining: “I wanted to give Uma a statement lip balanced by a more feathered brow.
“Uma and I discussed creating a look that was more editorial with soft natural lashes. As a makeup artist I’ve grown a bit tired of all of the lash-y looks and fake eyelashes that we’ve been seeing on the red carpet for some time now.
“I prepped Uma’s skin by massaging with Creme de la Mer The Concentrate. I applied a glowing foundation using a Beauty Blender for a super natural look. When the makeup was finished we misted her face with Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist for added radiance.”
Uma sparked mixed reactions from fans when she stepped out for the premiere of ‘The Slap’ earlier this week with visibly smoother skin to that of a month ago, teamed with a beautiful bold red lip and natural lashes.
While some fans were ‘upset’ over her ‘changed’ appearance, others were supporting her and saying that it was her face and she could do what she liked with it, really.
We’re glad Uma herself has spoken out to defend herself and silence the critics.
And as we’ve said before, we hope all the criticism doesn’t put her off experimenting with different looks in the future.
