Vanilla Ice claims that his arrest for burglary and theft is all a “misunderstanding.”
Vanilla, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, was released on bail from Palm Beach County Jail yesterday and faces burglary and grand theft charges.
The 47-year-old was accused of breaking into and stealing items from the Florida home next door to the house he was renovating for his TV show ‘The Vanilla Ice Project’ sometime last month.
Police said: “During the investigation, it was determined Robert Matthew Van Winkle played a role in the burglary and theft.
“A search warrant was obtained and executed in unincorporated Palm Beach County in which several of the stolen items were recovered at a residence under the care and control of Robert Van Winkle.”
Robert is also allegedly helping investigators locate the rest of the missing items.
However, speaking to CNN Affiiliate WPBF after his release from jail (on a $6,000 bond), Robert admitted it was all a “misunderstanding.”
He explained: “It’s just blown out of proportion.
“I wish you guys would focus on the good things I’ve done.”
Asked if the incident was all part of his show, “I wish it was. There’s nothing fun about this. I wish everybody all the best, and maybe some of the good news will travel this fast in the future.”
The DIY Network, on which his show is aired, said: “DIY Network has been made aware of this situation and is currently looking into the matter.”
Items allegedly stolen include furniture, a pool heater and bicycles.
The Lantana Police Department believe the burglary happened between December and February.
They added to Rolling Stone that Robert was being “very cooperative.”
