Aia Cooper got an unexpected kiss from President Barack Obama Monday, but what her boyfriend said to the leader of the free world shocked her even more. Cooper later explained she was “embarrassed” after boyfriend Mike Jones teased the president, CNN reported.
As Obama stood next to Cooper to cast his vote in chicago Monday, her boyfriend suddenly shouted, “Mr. President, don’t touch my girlfriend.” The president played along and retorted, “I really wasn’t planning on it,” then added, “There’s an example of a brother just embarrassing me for no reason.” Mortified, Cooper urged the president, “I am sorry. Please excuse him.”
After a quick banter, the president decided to give Jones a potential reason to worry. He leaned over and gave Cooper a smooch. “You’re gonna kiss me, give him something to talk about. Now, he’s really jealous,” the president joked.
Cooper told CNN afterward she was scared to vote after Jones made his comment. “I was like, ‘Do I have to stand there? I don’t really want to stand there,’” she said.
“I didn’t know what to say. I was just shaking. I said: ‘Oh boy, this is the president. What am I supposed to do?’” Cooper told WBBM-TV, Chicago.
But would the First Lady potentially get jealous? “On the cheek, just the cheek — please, Michelle, don’t come after me — just the cheek!” Cooper told WLS-TV, Chicago, after voting.
Jones later explained he made the comment because it was “so silent” and everyone was taking pictures. “I figured I had to say something to make people laugh,” he told WBBM.
Cooper and Jones reportedly did not know the president was going to be voting the same time they were, but it’s a story they plan on sharing for years.
