Meghan Markle is still at odds with her dad, Thomas Markle Sr. and her half-siblings. However, this isn’t the first time that the Duchess of Sussex had to pick sides.
In the book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” royal biographer Andrew Morton said that even as a young girl, Prince Harry’s wife was already caught in between her parents. Thomas and Doria Ragland divorced shortly after they had Markle.
According to the royal expert, Markle learned how to control her emotions because of the nihilistic parental interaction that her divorced parents had towards each other.
One of Markle’s friends told the royal expert that even though Markle appears to be very poised, things could have also been hard for her growing up.
“Sometimes she felt she had to pick sides,” the friend said.
Markle’s former teacher, Christine Knudsen, also recalled how Markle’s parents’ divorce affected her. “I know that it was difficult for her – one parent over here and one over there, and neither of them particularly fond of each other,” she said.
Meanwhile, Markle appears to not have forgiven her dad after he posed for a series of fake photos before her royal Wedding. Prince Harry’s wife has not also forgiven the former lighting director for all the interviews he gave to the press where he criticized his daughter and the royal family.
Just months ago, Thomas exposed Markle’s handwritten letters to him where she begged her dad to stop talking to the press. Markle also begged Thomas to stop believing everything he hears in the papers.
After the incident, Thomas avoided talking to the press in an attempt to get on his daughter’s good side. The 75-year-old also tried to make amends especially after the birth of his grandson.
But on July 6, it was revealed that only Ragland was invited to attend Archie’s christening. Thomas was once again snubbed from the event that was attended by some members of the royal family.
