Okay, so there’s been some pretty unexpected appearances in the X Factor sing-off this series – Paul Akister, Jay James, Lola Saunders FOR GOODNESS SAKE. Yeah, the list is endless really.
But if we’re totally honest, we never EVER saw Andrea Faustini and his pug-loving ways landing himself in there on Sunday night, against the joker of the pack Stevi Ritchie.
WHAT WERE THE BRITISH PUBLIC THINKING?!
Genuinely, we’re more baffled than our brains during a game of Trivial Pursuit.
Things were already at an all-time low on Saturday night, as Only The Young somehow found themselves as the first victims of the weekend’s double elimination after what we thought was a bloody good version of Elton John’s Something About The Way You Look Tonight.
How that was deemed worse than some girls rubbing baby oil all over 34-year-old Stevi we literally do not know.
Then, when it was time to see who would face the sing-off last night, we KINDA had a feeling that it could be Stevi vs Ben Haenow, after the judges were left less than impressed with Ben’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.
But lo and behold, Ben squeezed through, and it was down to Andrea, Stevi and Lauren Platt.
Lauren was put through, and it was time for Andrea and Stevi to sing it out.
We’ll be honest here and admit that we genuinely HELD OUR ACTUAL BREATH just in case Louis Walsh decided to pull another deadlock out of his bag of tricks.
You never really know with him do you?
Anyway, they both surprisingly sung really well, with Stevi proving that he has got some form of good vocal chords in him, but luckily the judges saw sense and put Andrea and his magnificent facial hair through.
Well, apart from Simon Cowell, but that was kinda obvious wasn’t it?
Speaking to Dermot O’Leary after hearing the result, Stevi was a ruddy good sport and just sounded happy to be given the opportunity really.
He said: “The whole experience for me has been an absolute dream. I never thought I would have got this far, ever.”
Us neither, but well done mate.
During the judges’ decision-making, Si decided to stand behind his wildcard act, saying: “Stevi, for me you were the one who showed the most passion within that sing-off.
“You’ve been so much fun to work with over the past few weeks… You realised you weren’t the best singer, but you’ve been great fun and a great entertainer.
“People have really fell in love with you. I’m gonna stand by my Stevi.”
Weirdly, we think part of us might actually miss Stevi and his kinda creepy dancing.
But then we remember Andrea and his pug-loving is still around and everything’s better.
