After we spied Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini basically confirming their X Factor gig by heading to a secret hotel meeting yesterday, it’s FINALLY been announced that the two WILL take their seats on the judging panel for this year’s X Factor.
They’ll be joined by boss man Simon Cowell as well as newbie Rita Ora, who’s jumped ship from The Voice to join her BFF Grimmy on the ITV show.
Yes okay, so this was literally the worst kept showbiz secret since the Caroline Flack and Olly Murs hosting news of April 2015, but we’re still more excited than when we get an extra helping of chips FOR FREE at lunchtime.
CONGRATS, Grimmy and Rita on your new jobs!
Rita, 24, is no stranger to the show, first appearing in 2012 when she was a guest judge, and has since tweeted: “Let’s do this.”
WE ARE READY.
Speaking about her new venture, she said: “I am excited to be coming back to The X Factor – I had a ball here in 2012. This is a journey I can’t wait to embark on to find some talented singers. Its the new generation taking over. Booooom.”
Nick, 30, is a total novice to the role, with his passion for music persuading SiCo that he’ll make a great addition to the X Factor squad.
In a statement, he said: “I love X Factor and have watched the series religiously since it started, so obviously I’m hugely excited to be joining the show.
“Music is my job and my passion and I’m really looking forward to seeing what talent we can find and nurture this year. I can’t wait for Judges Houses in Oldham!”
Chezza is something of a veteran to the show now, having judged (and argued with Simon) for five series, and is pretty darn chuffed to be shaking things up this year.
She tweeted this message, along with the photo of the (partial) new line-up:
