And although Lauren Platt is already looking like an early contender to take the X Factor crown this year, she’s still keeping a close eye on her competition.

Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Celebrity, the 16-year-old admitted that she thinks returning contestant Paul Akister is her biggest threat.

She told us:  “Obviously he was on the show last year and was amazing.

“But he’s come back and I remember chatting to him saying ‘oh I recognise you’ and he was like ‘yeah I was on it last year, last year I really wanted it but this year I’m in it,’ he’s really fighting for it.

“He’s really, really, amazing.”

We wouldn’t, however, be surprised if Paul was currently having the same thoughts about Lauren following the incredible reaction she received after performing a stripped down version of Whitney Houston’s ‘How Will I Know’ over the weekend.

Cheryl described her choice of song as smart, Mel exclaimed she wanted to ‘slap’ Lauren because it was that good (calm down), Louis said she was ‘born to sing,’ and Simon told it was a great audition – so understandably she was somewhat overwhelmed.

“The feeling was indescribable. I can’t really give you any words,” she explained.

“To have those four people, four of the most iconic people in the music industry say yes!

“Even hearing them say my name. When I watched it back they were all like ‘Lauren’ and I was like ‘they’re saying my name!’”

It was also revealed in this weekend’s episode that Lauren’s parents were back together following six years of separation.

Speaking of how this has affected the experience, Lauren was brilliantly pragmatic about it all.

She said: “It does [make this experience more enjoyable], mostly because if I do something like an interview I don’t have to ring mum or ring dad! If I ring one of them they’ll both be together so it’s a lot more convenient for me!”

The X Factor continues next Saturday at 8pm on ITV1.
