Simon Cowell is known for his cripplingly blunt opinions, so it came as no surprise when the X Factor judge succinctly burned Jake Quickenden for being so eager to appear on I’m A Celeb 2014.
The 55-year-old music mogul was speaking at a press conference for this weekend’s X Factor final when Simon revealed that he didn’t think Jake could’ve gone the distance to get to the finals, and took a swipe at his appearance in the jungle.
Jake was the fifth contestant to be sent packing from the live rounds of this year’s competition, but as soon as he was free from the rigours of the X Factor the Scunthorpe lad flew straight to Australia and walked into the I’m A Celebrity 2014 competition – which he also failed to win.
And while Jake has attracted a legion of fans during his time on both shows, including Simon’s fellow judge Mel B, it seems that Mr Cowell has never been a fan of the 26-year-old.
The record and TV producer said that he just didn’t see a burning desire in Jake to be a “recording artist in the real world”.
Simon explained that if you’re “In any competitionthat you don’t want to win, that tells me that you haven’t got that killer instinct to do well in the real-world.”
He then added it just didn’t sit well with him if contestants were “happy to come fourth or tenth, and just end up in the jungle”.
Ouch! Sorry Jake but that was defs aimed at you.
However Simon wasn’t overly mean and did call Jake a “nice guy”, but as usual that was also accompanied by his acidic wit, as he exclaimed: “He could of gone into the jungle first for the sake of all the show.”
Which doesn’t say much about Simon’s estimations of Jakes singing abilities.
Oh well, at least Jake’s still got a fan in Mel…
