They received a barrage of criticism for appearing on Bob Geldof’s Band Aid 30 despite not being professional singers.
But vloggers Zoella, Pointless Blog (Alfie) and Thatcher Joe have a right to appear on the charity single as they’re raising awareness of a worthy cause, according to fellow YouTuber Sprinkle of Glitr.
The mother-of-one – real name Louise Pentland – said the vlogging stars shouldn’t be slammed for simply trying to help the fight against Ebola.
“Are you buying the single for the music or are you buying it to help people that need your help?” Louise told Yahoo Celebrity on the Frozen Sing-A-Long red carpet.
“If so, are you really going to criticise people that aren’t necessarily professional singers. We all enjoy singing don’t we?!
“They’re only doing a nice thing for a good cause.”
The vlogging trio – 24-year-old Zoe Sugg and her boyfriend Alfie Deyes, as well as Zoe’s brother Joe Sugg – made history as the first people to appear on a Band Aid single who didn’t have musical credentials (they are said to have just sung the chorus).
They appeared alongside industry heavyweights Bono, Seal and Coldplay as well as world-famous acts such as One Direction and Ed Sheeran in the single.
But the vloggers soon faced a backlash on Twitter with many users asking why they were included in the first place.
By MazSightAnd when one user tweeted Zoella to say Bob Geldof’s inclusion of her was a ‘fail’, she said she was not going to turn down the opportunity.
Zoella responded: “If you were asked to help raise awareness and money for Ebola by Bob Geldof would you seriously say no?
“I’m afraid that’s not your decision. Have a nice day! Hope you enjoy the song :)”
By MazSightBut the criticism has yet to phase the vlogging superstars as Sprinkle Of Glitr revealed she’s spoken to the young lovers who said it was a cool experience for them.
“It’s really exciting! It’s so cool for them. I’ve spoken to her about it, she said it was a really cool experience and also it’s nice to do something so good for charity as well,” said Louise.
