He’s kept quiet about why he entered rehab earlier this year.
But now heartthrob Zac Efron has opened up about why he booked himself in for treatment, following a series of reports that he was suffering from a drug addiction.
The 26-year-old actor, who sought treatment twice this year for an alleged cocaine addiction, finally spoke out about the moment he realised he had a problem on NBC reality series ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls’.
Clearly there’s something about risking your life with Mr Grylls that just makes people want to open up.
Speaking about coping with success from a young age, Zac told the survival expert: “You know it was just so quick, it’s shocking, you know what I mean.
“The challenging part was never the work, it was sort of the in between work, the social aspects outside of it.”
Zac then went on to admit that he became reliant on ‘social lubricants’ to cope.
“You spend a lot of time in your house going crazy, you know pretty soon you need a social lubricant, he admitted.
“Once I needed that, it became to go anywhere. It was getting to the point where I was caring less about the work and waiting more for the weekend, where I couldn’t wait to go out and sort of let loose and have fun.
“But then when Monday and Tuesday were too difficult to get through, then I was like, ‘Oh, this is bad.’ “
Now sober, Zac revealed that he manages to maintain calm in his life through learning how to properly relax and be at one with himself.
“I just really never again want to have to take anything from the outside in to me to feel good about my outside, [I want] to be comfortable in my present skin, and that takes a lot of work,” he said.
“It’s just meditation and stopping, slowing down your brain.”
