Zayn Malik Admits He ‘Never’ Wanted To Be Famous In A Previously Unreleased Interview

A previously unreleased interview from 2012 has now been published, in which Zayn Malik, who quit One Direction earlier this week, admits he ‘never’ wanted to be famous.

Speaking just as he was about to board a plane (see, they’ve ALWAYS been hard-working), the Bradford sweetheart admits he only went to THAT life-changing X Factor audition for the experience.

Aaaand now we’ve got ‘WHERE’S ZAYN?’ flashbacks and we’re not sure we can use the meme in the same hilarious way anymore because it hurts too much.

The nostalgic, fetus feels are the most painful feels. Just to warn you, this interview might hurt your heart.

In the 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, the 22-year-old was asked if he expected his life to be anything like it is in One Direction – AKA MANIC.

Zayn replied: “No, not at all.  This isn’t what I thought I was going to be doing. I just went for the experience. I never went with a master plan, thinking, ‘I want to be famous’.

“I literally went for an experience thing on the show and just hoped that…I guess I just got lucky.”

N’awww.

He also revealed that he’d probably have gone to college to study English if it wasn’t for the band, “because I wanted to be an English major. I have a massive thing for English; I just loved words.”

Asked how he adjusted his mind to the fact that his life changed dramatically in just a few years, he explained: “It just happened and I’ve just gone with the flow. I guess that’s why it works so well because we share everything together; it’s a new experience for all of us.

“We just help each other through it and we don’t really think about what’s going on.”

BROMANCE FEELS KLAXON. They also hurt quite a lot, FYI.

The Bradford Bad Boi also hinted that he was already struggling to deal with the ‘hysteria’ surrounding the band, admitting that although it’s something they did talk about, they “sometimes don’t get it; you can’t believe it’s actually happening to you.”

He added: “Even the girls running down the street still doesn’t really hit you. It’s like, ‘No, they can’t be running for me; for us’.

“It’s really strange, and it’s hard to put into words, but it’s almost like you know it’s happening and you know you should believe it, but you almost don’t.”

However, the most heartbreaking part of the interview comes when Zayn starts discussing the possibility of leaving in five years and hints that what he’d do as a solo artiste.

We’re still FAR too emotional to deal with this guys. TOO SOON. HELP.

He revealed: “I don’t know. I think I’d love to be involved with it still, because obviously, we’ll be working in the industry for an extended amount of time and you get used to it.

“Even if it wasn’t as public or out there as what we do now, if it was just something even in the background, working as a studio songwriter, producing, that would always be a cool thing to do.”

Considering he was apparently pictured arriving at the studio yesterday, we can’t help but wonder what he’s up to already.

As much as we hoping this is all an awful April Fools’ joke and that the boys ARE still a five-piece after all, we’ll be fully supporting Zayn with whatever plans he has.
