While we’re still pinching ourselves and hoping that this Zayn Malik leaving One Direction news is all just the worst April Fools joke ever/a terrible, terrible nightmare that we’re about to wake up from, others are consoling themselves by blaming his fiancée Perrie Edwards.
Yep, a tonne of angry fans have taken to Twitter to chuck some serious shade in her direction by comparing her to Yoko Ono.
As you well know, it was announced yesterday that Zayn was leaving the band because he just wants to live a normal life for a bit. We’re heartbroken, but we’re total proud of him for sticking up for himself. <3
However, whilst all you wonderful Directioners are doing what you do best, sticking together and helping each other through this painful time like a proper little family, *some* fans are playing the blame game, and poor Perrie is the victim.
Zerrie have had a tough time of things lately, after Zayn was accused of cheating on his fiancée after he was seen supposedly ‘holding hands’ with Lauren Richardson in Thailand.
He firmly denied this, but soon headed home for what some report were ‘crisis talks’ with the Little Mix gal.
Taking to Twitter after this latest devastating news, SOME fans were quick to place the blame on the poor girl, comparing her to Yoko Ono.
Yoko is the late widow of John Lennon and was often blamed for breaking up The Beatles. Yikes.
Fans lashed out at Perrie, with one user writing: “Perrie’s the modern day Yoko Ono … I can’t believe this.”
Another said: “im not gonna lie i think this all about perrie and his relationship he was perfectly fine before that [sic],” whilst another tweeted: “This is all Perrie’s fault, I just know it.”
Some even harshly suggested that she should quit Little Mix to help Zayn live the normal life he craves. Erm, ouch.
We’re pretty sure Zayn is old enough to make his own decisions, and that he’s got his own understandable reasons for wanted to leave the spotlight and be normal for a bit – reasons that don’t involved his fiancée.
But whatever you believe are the reasons behind his departure, blaming Perrie probably isn’t going to help Zayn get through this difficult time. Let’s all just be there to support him, yeah?
We know you don’t really want your minds refreshed on this, but hopefully this recap won’t be *too* painful. It hurts us too much to type these words anyway.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Zayn had officially left the band because he just wanted to live a normal 22-year-old’s life.
In a statement that monumentally broke our hearts, he said: “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.
“I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”
One Direction were super supportive, saying: “We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future.
“The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.”
Yes, we’re still crying, alright? We’re probably going to still be crying next month so someone bring us some tissues.
And maybe a stiff drink, too.
